Brick Memorial High School PTSA Welcomes You Back to School 2011-2012

As our children get older and our role as parents in the classroom diminishes, it is even more important to stay connected to our school and community. At many levels our involvement in school and community becomes more important than ever.

Keep your children engaged in activities in and out of school. Brick Memorial offers many wonderful clubs and opportunities to be involved. I have over these past four years found the faculty to be very dedicated, involved and eager to have our children succeed. As the mother of an incoming Senior at Memorial and a College Freshman I have personally experienced their dedication and commitment to our kids. The PTA at Brick Memorial is actually a PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association). Students have opportunity to serve their community through PTA by becoming members, volunteering and serving on committees. Visit www.pta.org for many helpful tips and information on education and guiding your students during their teen year.

Our PTSA Executive Board is comprised of Parents representing Sophomore, Junior and Senior Classes; two of our Senior Students Chair/Co-Chair Committees, as do two members of our Faculty. We are still in need of Freshman Parents/Students to step up and have several positions still open: Membership Co-Chairman; Hospitality Chairman and Fundraising Chairman. Anyone interested in helping out as a Chair or Volunteer simply needs to indicate their interest on our membership form.

Our ongoing fundraisers this year will be Tyson A+ for Education and PATHMARK Script Program These two programs are a way to support our efforts without spending money. We will also be selling wreaths and Scrip Cards for the Holidays as a way of Gift Giving and supporting our programs at the same time. The Scrip Cards cost you the same as they would if you purchased directly through the listed retailers. Brick Memorial PTSA will receive a percentage of profit directly from the listed retailers at no extra cost to you. Information on these fundraisers are posted on our website www.brickmemorialptsa.org as well as the school web.

Our PTSA has been able to award two scholarships each year to graduating Brick Memorial HS Seniors attending Post Secondary Education Institutions. Our Scholarship s based on community service, volunteer spirit and dedication to learning. Our PTA Scholarships are open to all students of Brick Memorial. We have awarded eight scholarships to date; they were awarded to active PTA Members AND awarded to students who have shown a volunteer spirit regardless of PTA membership. Supporting our fundraisers and joining our PTA supports these scholarships and our workshops.

The PTA is proud to offer an opportunity for our students to express themselves creatively through the National PTA Reflections Program. The program recognizes outstanding achievement in the arts. This year's theme is “Diversity Means...” See enclosed flyer and contact Chairman Gabby Gedrich at 732-458-6008 for rules and information.

The Brick Memorial High School PTSA is in our fifth year of service and we are growing steadily. We are planning guest speakers this year covering topics on bullying and substance abuse. Speakers will be scheduled during our Membership Meetings and as a PTA member we will keep you posted on these programs via email. Membership information will be mailed to you during the first few weeks of the school year.

It is difficult to funnel paper through a school so large, and few students bring information home. We will have this one mailing at the beginning of the school year and will continue to keep our members updated through email, internet sources such as Facebook, our website and Brick Memorial's Website. The cost of mailings is becoming increasingly expensive and we would rather see the money raised used toward our programs.

Please join us at our first meeting on October 4th.
Stay Involved, Be Informed!

Wishing you all a wonderful new school year!
